License Restoration Program
Getting to work, caring for family, and keeping appointments can be difficult without a valid driver’s license. Through Operation Drive, the 61st District Court helps eligible people work toward obtaining or restoring a Michigan driver’s license with practical guidance, an individualized plan, and support along the way.
Who May Be Eligible
You may be eligible if you are facing charges such as:
- Driving while unlicensed.
- Driving while license suspended, revoked, or denied.
- No operator’s license on person.
Eligibility depends on your case and driving history and is determined by the court.
What to Expect
Once you are accepted into Operation Drive, you will work with the MIDC program attorney or your retained attorney, and the Operation Drive program coordinator to address the issues or barriers keeping you from a valid license. The court’s goal is to help you understand your next steps and support you in successfully completing the program within one year.
-
1Understand what is standing in the way
The program team helps review your driving history and identify what needs attention. Depending on your situation, this may include unresolved tickets, required court appearances, or other licensing requirements.
-
2Build a plan with support
You receive a plan with steps tailored to your circumstances. Your program attorney helps you understand legal issues, while the coordinator assists with driving records, review scheduling, and challenges that arise as you work through the plan.
-
3Take steps toward legal driving
At regular court reviews, you discuss progress, ask questions, and work through challenges with the team. Your next review date is based on your progress and support needs. You may attend review hearings through Zoom to reduce travel to the courthouse.
-
4Graduate and move forward
Graduation celebrates your successful completion of Operation Drive and the work you have put into obtaining a valid driver’s license. The court team recognizes your progress and commitment to safe, legal driving.
