Court Officers
Court Officers are certified process servers who serve court documents and complete other civil process tasks for the 61st District Court. They may be used for personal service in certain case types, such as Small Claims and other civil matters.
What Court Officers Do
Court Officers may:
- Serve court documents on a defendant or other party
- Complete and return a Proof of Service after documents are served
- Provide service of process within timelines required by court rules and the scheduled hearing date
Fees and Payment
Service fees are paid directly to the Court Officer and are set by the individual officer. The court does not collect or set these fees.
Choosing a Process Server
When personal service is required, you may use a 61st District Court Court Officer or another qualified process server. If you use your own process server (someone who is not a 61st District Court Court Officer), you may be responsible for obtaining the completed Proof of Service and filing it with the court.
