On July 10, 2025, the 61st District Court hosted a job fair in Grand Rapids focused on one of the most practical needs for people involved in the justice system: access to stable, meaningful work. The event brought together local employers, service providers, and court programs with a special focus on individuals connected to Probation, Problem-Solving Courts, and Alternative Sentencing.
For many participants, employment is not just a paycheck; it is a turning point. The job fair was designed to reduce real-world barriers—gaps in work history, limited transportation, prior convictions—and to connect people with employers who understand those challenges. By creating a space where participants could meet face-to-face with hiring managers and workforce agencies, the Court helped move job-seeking from an abstract goal to a concrete next step.
The event also highlighted the role of the Court’s Problem-Solving Courts and Alternative Sentencing programs in supporting long-term success. Staff were on hand to explain how treatment, accountability, and employment fit together, and how a steady job can strengthen recovery, reduce recidivism, and improve family stability.
From the Court’s perspective, the job fair was more than a one-day event; it was an extension of its mission. By partnering with the community to support employment, the 61st District Court is investing in safer neighborhoods, stronger families, and a more hopeful future for the people it serves.
