Judge Kimberly A. Schaefer

Judge Kimberly Schaefer was elected to the 61st District Court in 2008 and presides over the Drug Treatment Court, in addition to the regular docket of a 61st District Court Judge.

She was an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Grand Rapids Enforcement Division, from 1988-2008 and an Adjunct Professor in Business Law at Grand Rapids Community College from 1989-1998.

Judge Schaefer received her Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University Law School in 1984, Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Michigan in 1981 and Associate’s Degree from Grand Rapids Junior College in 1979.

Her professional memberships include the Michigan District Judge’s Association, State Bar of Michigan, Grand Rapids Bar Association, Women Lawyers Association, Floyd Skinner Bar Association and the Michigan Association of Drug Court Professionals. Past and present community involvement includes True Light Missionary Baptist Church, Theta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Legal Assistance Center and participation in Student Career Law Days, Mentorships, Job Shadowing and Courtroom visitation.
